The head of the Supreme Court’s criminal chamber said on state television that courts had sanctioned 689 people linked to drug trafficking so far that year, 92% with prison sentences. These totals cover drugs generally, not cannabis alone. Authorities separately reported 77 cases of marihuana growing. The broadcast’s broad account of maximum drug penalties does not replace article 236’s separate, lower range for simple cannabis possession.[1]
