On 18 June 2026, Gongliu County’s anti-drug office and forestry and grassland bureau led forest rangers and local residents in a wild cannabis search in Aketubieke Town.[1] They divided the area into sectors and checked mountain forests, waste slopes, field edges, riverbeds, irrigation ditches and unused courtyards.[1]

The county-media report says crews cleared plants as they found them and did not leave untreated areas.[1] Zhang Yongliang, head of the bureau’s public forest office, said the operation removed more than 250,000 wild cannabis plants.[1]

Staff also gave drug-prevention information to forest rangers and local farmers and herders, and asked residents to report illegal cultivation or spreading wild stands.[1] The report, published on 22 June, says patrols would continue after the operation.[1] It gives no area or weight for the plants removed and names no suspect, arrest or charge.[1]
