Alinagar police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested three men with 60 kg of ganja, or cannabis, during a vehicle check on Saturday.[1] Abhishek Singh was 25, Awadhesh 20 and Naushad 24.[2]

The Alinagar team was checking vehicles near Hamidpur Patanwa.[3] Acting on an informer’s tip, officers signalled a car coming from Mirzapur to stop.[3] The driver tried to run the car at the police team.[1] Officers chased the car and stopped it near Babatpur in Varanasi district.[1] In the boot, under the stepney (spare wheel), they found 60 packets of ganja.[1] The packets held 60 kg, and police estimated the ganja’s value at about 20 lakh rupees (2 million).[2]

A first information report was registered against all three at Alinagar police station under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).[2] Police said four criminal cases were already registered against Abhishek Singh in Sultanpur, including attempted murder and Arms Act cases.[2] Circle officer Arun Kumar Singh said police recovered 60 kg of ganja from the three and were taking further action.[2]
