Nepanagar police raided a field in Patel Mohalla of Mandwa village in Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh, and said they had uncovered illegal cannabis cultivation.[1] Police named the field owner as Prakash, son of Kunwar Singh Barela, who lives in Patel Mohalla of Mandwa.[1] The owner was not at the field during the raid and had fled his home before police arrived, and police said teams were deployed to find him.[1]

Police said the cannabis had been planted between cotton and tuvar crops already growing in the field, with tuvar a pigeon-pea crop.[1] Officers seized 96 cannabis plants from the field.[1] The recovered plants were green and leafy and measured 4 to 7 feet tall.[1] A second account describes the same plants as lush green with leaves and buds.[2] Police weighed the seized plants at 49.740 kilograms and estimated their value at about 100,000 rupees.[1]

Burhanpur superintendent Ashutosh Bagri had ordered action against illegal drugs in the district, with additional superintendent Pradeep Shende guiding the operation.[1] Station chief Shahabuddin Qureshi received an informer’s tip on 3 November 2026 that Barela was cultivating cannabis plants in his field.[1] After the tip, the station chief formed a police team and raided the named field.[1] Nepanagar police registered crime number 380/2026 against the accused under Sections 8/20(A) of the NDPS Act, India’s drug law, and took it up for investigation.[1]
