Anti-narcotics police announced on 20 December 2024 that they had broken up a cannabis ring that took payment through unverified bank accounts and cryptocurrency. Ten people were arrested and 550 kg of dried cannabis and 10 kg of resin were seized, along with packaging disguised as tea and food. The ringleader told police he had arranged seven shipments, about two tonnes, in two months.
The Royal Oman Police arrested two people and seized more than 75 kilograms of drugs, including crystal meth, hashish, marijuana and psychotropic tablets, in a shipment smuggled by sea, the force said on 29 December 2024. The statement did not split the haul by drug or name the vessel's origin. It showed cannabis resin and herb moving alongside methamphetamine and tablets in the same shipment.
The eastern-based Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Agency reported seizing 8,051,317 pills, 759.6 kg of cocaine and 1.7 kg of heroin in 2024, with a total value of about 620 million dinars. It also listed 2,073 arrests and just 951 grams of hashish. Pills and cocaine dominated the published haul.
The Anti-Narcotics Department reported 25,260 drug cases involving 38,782 people in 2024. It seized 3,000 kg of hashish, 262 kg of marijuana and 27.5 million Captagon pills, and 744 people entered rehabilitation. The figures cover all drugs, not cannabis alone.
