Two Maldivian men were arrested in Bangkok after police found 2.37 kg of crystal methamphetamine hidden in stainless-steel tumblers and about 10 kg of cannabis buds wrapped in children’s clothing.[1][2][3]
Police identified them as Ali Rashid, 46, and Mohamed Wisam, 34; the investigation began on 5 October when a Pratunam cargo office refused their taped boxes over a strong smell, and officers later traced the parcels to beneath a dormitory in Soi Phetchaburi 11, Ratchathewi, watching the pair call a tuk-tuk to move them.[1][2] The meth was packed 200– 300 g per tumbler; the cannabis was taped inside bundles of children’s clothes and toy cars across five large boxes, seized with the men at Phaya Thai station.[1] Both denied knowing the contents, saying a friend asked them to send the parcels, and were charged with joint possession with intent to sell while police probe transnational links.[1][3] Wisam was previously a main suspect in a 2020 case of 72 kg of heroin smuggled into the Maldives, dismissed for insufficient evidence.[3]
