Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit of Ahmedabad Customs arrested a man and a woman, both residents of Surat district, on 1 November 2026 after recovering 13.012 kg of hydroponic marijuana from their checked-in luggage at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.[1][2] The two had arrived from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG-343.[1][2]
The pair were flagged through passenger profiling before their trolley bags went through X-ray screening, where officers noticed suspicious images and ordered a detailed manual examination.[1][2] Inside the bags officers found 14 vacuum-sealed packets, whose contents field-tested positive for ganja, the Hindi term for cannabis.[1][2] Customs estimated the haul, a higher-potency soil-free grown variant of cannabis, at approximately Rs 13 crore.[1][2]
The drugs were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, India’s main drug law, and both passengers were arrested.[1][2] Customs said further investigation into the wider supply chain was under way, with the two held in custody while investigators probe links to organised networks.[1]
